Oyan Simatupang
Lead Pastor
Oyan Simatupang (Florian) never, in his wildest imagination, thought of becoming a pastor. Yet here he is and would not change it for anything (partly because it changed him not to be so introverted anymore).
Born in Bandung, he spent part of his childhood in Jakarta and Columbus, Ohio, and played hard around the Seattle-Portland area in the late-‘80s - mid-’90s. After about fifteen years in various professional settings, in 2009, Oyan decided to resign from his last job, pack up, and, with his wife, Pastor Arlene, and oldest daughter Tedra, leave for Vancouver, BC, to attend Regent College. After finishing his MDiv in 2012, they and the newest member of the family, the Canadian-born daughter Katriel, moved back to Indonesia and began ministering at IES Jakarta, CTK’s sending church.
In March 2021, Oyan completed his Ph.D. in systematic theology from Regent University, only to realize that the more one studies theology, the more one does not know. By teaching theology at our denomination’s Satyabhakti seminary, he is helping Master students realize the same thing, too.
He adores his wife and daughters and is a two-cups-of-coffee morning person who eats anything (except he recently found out that he has to hold off on the sambal).
