A Place Where You Belong

We are Christ the King—a Jakarta-based community of disciples who desire to be Spirit-filled and are on a journey living the story of Jesus, emulating the kingship of Christ in every area of life. We believe Christ’s kingship is best understood as kinship. This way of understanding Christ’s kingship is what makes it very difficult for any disciples to live out. The reason for this is that in our brokenness, humanity’s tendency is to “lord it over others.” We believe that the only way we can do this is if we have a safe space for everyone to explore, question, even doubt, and of course, eventually grow.

That is why our hope is only found in total dependency on the Holy Spirit because She* is our only chance to break away from that tendency.

Whoever you are, wherever you are on this life journey, we welcome you to come and visit our community.

*) addressing the Spirit in feminine or maternal terms has never been completely foreign to Christian or Jewish theology. In Hebrew and Syriac, the word for Spirit is feminine, which helped to overcome the exclusively masculine language for God.

A Diverse and Inclusive Community

We believe that every person is ‘hybrid’ and ‘in-between.’ This means that we come from all walks of life, shaped by our family of origins, ethnic backgrounds, nationalities, education, languages, identities, and other life experiences. All of these make us what we are now. Seeing ourselves as hybrid and in-between is important because it can help us recognize our own brokenness. These are the areas where we need extra grace from Christ so we can be healed. At the same time, it also helps us recognize the opportunities we have to be an extension of Christ's grace to others. It calls us to treat all people with dignity, respect, and honor, especially the vulnerable or marginalized.

At Christ the King Church, we value our diversity and strive for equity and inclusivity (DEI) because we see that this is the way Jesus brings us together to serve Him.
